We have an important update to share about the future of the Vassall Centre.

After careful consideration of affordability and the economic climate, and after listening to the views of our tenants, partners and the wider community, Bristol Charities has made the decision that it cannot proceed with redevelopment of the site that was consulted on in 2023 within the current planning permission. We remain open to the future redevelopment of the site. In the meantime, we are committed to remaining at the Vassall Centre and continuing to invest in the local area.

This means that the Vassall Centre will continue to support around 25 voluntary, charitable and social enterprise (VCSE) organisations, providing affordable, accessible workspaces and meeting spaces that enables them to deliver vital services. Alongside this, we will focus on targeted investment in the building and surrounding area, including improvements to accessibility.

We’re proud of the unique and valuable community at the Vassall Centre, and we’re committed to strengthening it as we look to the future. We’ll be sharing more information soon about our plans to improve the space and better support everyone who calls the Centre home – including expanded food provision, health and fitness provisions, and improved outdoor areas.

Our mission remains to empower communities through collaborative hubs and by providing the infrastructure charities need to thrive. We will continue to review how the Vassall Centre can best serve local needs over the long term and remain committed to continued investments in affordable housing in the city and opportunities that align with this vision.
